Question #2 - Is chrome in my budget or do I need to stay with polished or painted steel and aluminum? The most expensive wheels that are on the market are the chrome wheels.
Question #3 - What type of finish do I prefer? It is also important to protect your finishes even if you have a powder coated or painted rim. If you have painted wheels all you need to do is wash them regularly so they stay clean. Again, brake dust can settle on any type of wheels to cause rust spots that will damage and permanently stain your wheels.
Figuring out the size, color and finish will really narrow your choices down a lot and make it easier to choose. For example, a car that has front wheel drive has what is known as a "positive offset," which means that the wheel's face is toward the outer edge of the wheel itself. Older vehicles that have rear wheel drive as well as trucks have what is known as a "negative offset," which means that the wheel's face is in deeper with a mounting surface that is offset about halfway. Newer trucks and SUVs will usually have a "mid offset," meaning that it is more toward the positive side compared to what you will see on a standard car, giving you a plus 30 offset as opposed to a plus 38 offset.
