2012 New Year's Resolution: Get Heart Healthy With L-Carnitine

As you move into the New Year, you might be making a ton of resolutions, from saying you will eat better to making time to work out. Many people embark on a slew of New Year's resolutions in January, only to find that they fall off by the end of the month. However, there is one resolution worth keeping and that's getting your heart in better shape. In the end, poor heart health doesn't result in a guilty conscience because you didn't keep a resolution; it can be your ultimate and quite untimely demise. There are several things, from walking just 30 minutes a day to incorporate l-carnitine supplements into your daily vitamin regimen; you can do to promote better heart health.

· Take three 10-15 minute walks daily: If you split it up, you won't feel so overwhelmed in trying to make time to get a workout in and you may be more prone to stick with it. Talk a walk just outside of your office or around your neighborhood in the morning or evening. Get your kids to get up and walk with you or a significant other for added motivation. You could also ask another family member, friend or neighbor. This is one of the healthiest things you can do for your heart in the New Year. If you want to then progress to another form of exercise, from aerobic classes to jogging, you can do so, but at least start with the walking. It costs nothing, takes little time and has such a huge amount of benefit to your overall health. The more you walk, the stronger your heart will get and the more your body will reap the benefits from the daily exercise.

· Incorporate supplements into your morning regimen: Vitamins boost you in areas where you might have a deficiency that adversely affects your health. Fish oil capsules and l-carnitine supplements are important additions to your cache of vitamins as both promote good heart health. You can also take Vitamin C and B-vitamins, both of which have added health benefits overall. However, the l-carnitine in particular guards against heart issues, so particularly if you are overweight and/or have a family history of heart disease, this might be a good supplement for you to try.

· Eat better: Make small changes at first; people usually fail when they try to do too much for the New Year. Start small by, say, replacing soda with water. Don't change anything else; start with that and once you've got it licked, make another change. This helps your heart healthier changes become more lasting as you move forward in your quest to get healthier overall. You might also try incorporating more fish in your diet, as this is a heart healthy move, and cut out foods high in saturated fat. These foods often come with a recipe for high cholesterol and subsequent heart disease, so steer clear where possible. Drink as much water as possible, make any protein you eat lean and utilize your diet as fuel instead of comfort. Doing so will ensure that you realize the benefits of frequent exercise, access to supplements and the development of good habits much quicker than you might seem them otherwise. Moreover, you may find that you just feel better when you eat better, with less fatigue and more energy than you've had in years, which is well worth the effort just for that fact.

· Make other lifestyle changes as needed: For example, if you smoke, consider quitting for the New Year. All of the l-carnitine and exercise in the world isn't going to do your heart a bit of good if you continue to cultivate unhealthy habits that destroy the muscle. Start a smoking cessation program to stop smoking and start living a healthier life.

Good heart health takes work, but if you put in the effort to stay healthy now, you won't have to put in the effort later to regain good health. Eating right, taking supplements and exercising make you a proactive participant in your health and in your life overall. Being proactive helps to ensure lasting life that is positive and healthy.

The Joy and Humor of a Real Estate Broker Parent

My youngest daughter, who at the tender age of 5, is very wise for the short amount of time she has graced our lives with her views of life. This year she started preschool; with her birthday later in the year she is one of the oldest in her class. They gave all the kids a poster to decorate as a means of introduction to everyone.

When she brought it home, her little eyes alight with delight at having homework, she enthusiastically showed me "how it had to be done". So we set to work putting all her likes and dislikes on the poster, and filling in her age and name. Spiders, ghosts and various vegetables graced the dislike section, and spaghetti, puppies and the color orange adorned the favorites area. Our family portrait, as drawn by Miss S, proudly stood out at the top of the page.

When it came time to do her 'What I want to be...' section, I asked her questions about what she wanted to be, like a veterinarian, rodeo girl, or a chef. You see, she loves animals and horses so much, and is always watching Food TV, so I thought these definite contenders for top job. Boy, was I wrong!

She turned her long-lashed gaze up to me, solemnly patted my face like I was senile, and stated in her matter-of-fact voice that she wanted to be a "house seller."

"I want to be a house seller like you mommy. I want to give people homes who don't have one."

You could've knocked me over with a feather when she said that. I couldn't speak, not utter one word. I wordlessly picked up the crayons she directed me to, drew her little person and a house with a 'For Sale' sign in the front. Her little head bobbing in satisfaction, she told me my drawing "would do" for her class.

She proudly displays her poster at school, giving me credit for more powers than any parent could ever dream of having. You see, I am a real estate broker, I find those houses for people who want one and help others sell their homes. I can't leap buildings or stop speeding trains or anything special like that, I just listen. I listen to what my client(s) hopes and dreams are, I listen so I can get to know them.

Yet sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be that superhero she dreams of...

Secrets Apple iPhone 5 Release Date Is October, Not September

"Historically the only time they've done this was for an iPhone release," reads that email. "So we're looking at the last two weeks of September." "I don't know why AT&T's calling for all hands on deck those weeks, but it's not for an iPhone launch," one source said.

Apple hasn't commented on when it will release a new iPhone model, or what features it will include. For now, the September - and now October - launch reports should be treated as rumors.

The iPhone 5 allegedly entered the final stage of its design phase a couple of months ago, and recently entered production phase. The device will come pre-loaded with iOS 5, and should offer a slew of improvements, such as a vastly improved notifications system, Twitter integration, better Safari and Mail apps, the new iMessage service, iCloud integration, improved multitasking, and better overall responsiveness.

According to an apparent leak from a Best Buy employee, the retailer is going to install some Apple-related fixtures at 6am in the morning of October 21. Earlier rumors mentioned that the next iPhone would launch on October 9 in New Zealand, so take all of this with a grain of salt, but historically, Apple has launched new products in that timeframe.

We have a tip given to 9to5Mac, which shows that Apple has begun to train retail store employees about iCloud and iOS 5. In general, Apple releases its new version of iOS around the same time as its next-generation iPhone. So, the thinking goes, if Apple is training employees on iOS 5, then iPhone 5 is right around the corner. Also, we have news from Bloomberg that German wireless giant Deutsche Telekom has already begun taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5, even though the company has no (public) knowledge of what the handset will be. Customers who "expressly request the successor model to the iPhone 4″ will be given a coupon for the upcoming - but still unconfirmed - device.

iPhone 5 manufacturing has begun in Asia amid burning questions regarding the makeup of the long sought next generation Apple smartphone. The new iPhone's screen size, after remaining intact for four years, faces scrutiny. The rise of 4G LTE networks has Apple facing pressure from partners including AT&T and Verizon. The iPhone's trademark curves, which all but exited in the fourth generation iPhone era in favor of a boxy iPhone 4, are in demand for a return engagement from a number of users.

Screen: The 3.5 inch screen found on the first four iPhones has sharply increased in pixel density and quality over the years, but its physical dimensions have remained the same. This comes as competing Android based phones offer screens which are as large as four inches but offer lower quality resolution.

LTE: Verizon and AT&T have bet their near term futures on the rise of 4G LTE networks, which Verizon is still getting around to building and AT&T is still getting around to imagining. Apple's argument against employing LTE in the iPhone 4 is that almost no one would have been able to use it anyway. A year-plus later, a higher percentage of customers live in areas in which a 4G LTE signal is available, placing Apple on the spot when it comes to including it in the iPhone 5 or not.

Curvaceousness: When the iPhone 4 prototype leaked out early last year, many dismissed it as being an obvious fake because it was "too ugly" to be an Apple product. That was a bad sign for the product, whose boxy design suggested Apple was attempting to court the kind of tech geeks who had their other eye focused on competing Android phones. A year later, the geeks have fled for Android, while the mainstream has increasingly made it clear that they want an iPhone (they just want it to come to their preferred carrier).

Here are the reasons why iPhone 5 will be the best selling smartphone:

Marketing: Marketing is very important in building customer relationships as well as creating product awareness. This is one of Apple's many strongholds. The company, as soon as it announces about the launch of a new device, it takes to the airwaves describing the device and showcasing the finer points. As the customers get excited, the product becomes an instant hit. The iPhone 5 will enjoy the same advantage.

Device Specifications: iPhone 4, previously, enjoyed immense popularity among customers although there were other smartphones in the market which came up with better specifications showing better processor, RAM and battery than iPhone 4. The rumors that are circling the iPhone 5 suggest a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, an 8 MP dual-LED rear camera, a possible 1 GB RAM (Apple is known to upgrade its device's RAM with every release) and improved battery life.

Brand Name: Apple has considerably become a brand which creates trust and an emotional attachment. This attachment then causes the consumers to decide about the product. Lately, Apple has also become the world's most valuable brand according to a study published by global research agency Millward Brown.

Operating System: Lately, iOS 5.0 and its features were announced on June 6 at the WWDC 2011 keynote address. The new operating system comes with iCloud service and the Notification Center, as well as improvements to native apps such as Camera. Moreover, the new operating system has more than 200 new features. In fact, the operating system of Apple is a mobile operating system that was already years ahead of anything else before Android could even make its move.

Design: When it comes to the iPhone, Apple has always updated the design of their smartphone each year. Designers Michal Bonikowski and Antoine Brieux have played it safe with the design of the new iPhone. iPhone 4 and Apple's original iPad looks very similar in terms of design.

Happy holidays: Google Doodle shows evolution of the art

The holiday Google Doodle has arrived. Call it an early Christmas present -- complete with interactive flashing lights and the tune “Jingle Bells” -- for Google Doodle fans who helped give the doodles a life of their own in 2011.

Among this year’s highlights were the Les Paul doodle, the Charlie Chaplin doodle and the Halloween doodle -- all were clicked and clicked again.

But where do these creations come from? From the Google doodlers, that’s who. That’s what they call themselves, anyway, but arguably, the doodlers stopped doodling some time ago.

What the team does is illustrate, animate and, together, cogitate -- creating what can rightly be termed art. The team's creations, called Google Doodles, are built in, on and around the logo on the Google home page, and they've been seen by millions of Web users.

Over time, the doodles have become “more and more involved and complicated,” said team member Sophia Foster-Dimino in an interview with The Times. “More like works of art than fun gags.”

The Google doodles started in 1998 with a stick figure by Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They were going to be out of town at the Burning Man festival and changing the homepage logo was their little way of letting it be known.

In 2000, a team was created to regularly supply the Google homepage with doodles. What began as “fun and quirky” transformed over time to much more -- see the mosaic stylings of the Dizzy Gillespie birthday doodle and the Van Gogh.

Foster-Dimino, along with Ryan Germick, Mike Dutton and Jennifer Hom, “all went to art school, but we have slightly different backgrounds,” she said. “That very much informs the team atmosphere ... the way we work on doodles.”

The doodlers aren't high-profile. There are even "people within the company who are surprised the team exists," Foster-Dimino said.

But the doodles themselves have developed something of a cult following on the Web, with some of them becoming huge hits. The doodle honoring Les Paul with a playable digital guitar was so popular, for instance, that Google created a standalone site for users to strum.

Team members have their own favorites. For the Charlie Chaplin video doodle, "everyone took on a role as someone in the movie and worked with a video crew," Foster-Dimino said. Another favorite: the elaborate Halloween 2011 doodle, which she planned and managed. That doodle involved time-lapse video, and the team "spent eight hours out in the sun carving away at these enormous pumpkins."

For the interactive doodle honoring Gumby mastermind Art Clokey, his son, Joe Clokey, and Joe's wife, Joan, supervised the process. The Gumby characters are revealed as you click on the balls of clay.

Gumby puppet maker Nicole LaPointe-McKay also was involved. She told Gumby World that three to six puppets were made for each character for about four to six seconds of animation per character. The Google programming team then integrated the individual segments of animation.

For Foster-Dimino, ultimately, the work isn't about the art the doodlers create but about the education they provide.

“When people come to the page, if they haven’t heard of someone,” they click through to the search results and “it’s a gateway to all this knowledge about this person.... My favorite thing about the job is to share this information with the world and inspire passion ... in people who want to learn more.”

Of course, sometimes the doodles are just plain fun.

Google Doodles for the upcoming Christmas holiday already have appeared on several Google properties (such as in Australia) on the eve of Christmas Eve, but not yet on Google.com (as of 11:30 a.m. PST).

U.S. fans might well be wondering whether Google has something special up its sleeve for them -- although the "Let It Snow" Google trick may be considered pretty special.

A Christmas gift from Darlene Love to All of Us

Tonight is the second-most wonderful night of the Christmas season. Tonight is when David Letterman asks Darlene Love to come to his " Late Show" and sing "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)."

Sniff, sniff. I always get a tear in my eye, ya know?

The song is one that Love sang in 1963 for the album "A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records." "Philles Records" was the great producer Phil Spector, famous for his "wall of sound" recording techniques. He is currently in prison, 19 years to life, and his lawyers are appealing to the Supreme Court. He was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

That has to be mentioned, but before whatever it was that happened to him that put him where he is now, Spector was a great record producer.

And he was smart enough to realize that Love had the best voice for "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." So he yanked the woman who would later become his own wife (for a few years anyway), Ronnie Spector, out of the studio, and gave the song to Love.

Fast-forward to 1984, when "Late Night" band leader Paul Shaffer was performing with Love in the musical "Leader of the Pack." Letterman saw the show, they all talked, Love went on "Late Night" and sang the great song with Shaffer's four-piece band.

The performance has evolved: These days, "Late Night" springs to bring in a strings section and a chorus, and fake snow falling from the catwalks.

It's fabulous, and absolutely one of my favorite things, ever, on television.

Watch the show! It's at 11:30 p.m. tonight on CBS. The Love performances probably can't go on forever, ya know. She is 73 years old. The last time I heard her sing, she still sounded great, though.

Comedian Jay Thomas is also to be on hand, to throw a football at a meatball on a Christmas tree -- another "Late Show" Christmas tradition -- and the actor David Hyde Pierce, who is doing the show "Close Up Space" in New York these days with Rosie Perez.

GOOD NEWS DEPT.: I am a little late reporting this -- Hey! I've been busy! Get off my back! -- but TheatreWorks has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Sweet!

"This is the single largest grant we've ever received from the NEA and twice as much as we were granted last year," said TheatreWorks' Director of New Works Meredith McDonough, in a press release. "As you might expect, we are absolutely thrilled. It is especially meaningful in a time when arts funding is being scrutinized and slashed left and right. A grant of this size and distinction totally validates our efforts and confirms that we are on the right track with the New Works Initiative -- sustaining and celebrating new voices and stories in the American Theatre."

Well, the TheatreWorks New Works Initiative is the goods. It has produced a number of excellent plays and musicals, many of which have gone on to some major honors nationwide.

Theater does not pay for itself through ticket sales, as we all know. So, it's great to see a grant come to so deserving a troupe.

NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman announced that the agency will award 863 grants to organizations and individual writers across the country, totaling $22.543 million.

Accessible Black Friday Shopping Deals

From computers to clothing and movies, some of the most attractive and accessible Black Friday shopping deals were online rather than in retail stores. And Americans flocked online to catch the falling opportunities.

The deals are available at many of the same stores that promote heavy Black Friday traffic in their physical locations, such as Best Buy and Walmart. Radio Shack offered $100 off an Xbox 360 gaming platform with Kinect Motion Sensor, bringing its price to $199.99.

Walmart put televisions on sale online ahead of Black Friday, allowing customers the chance to skip the in-store crowds.

Best Buy has its own online price cuts for TVs and other gadgets, as well as for cheaper goods.

A host of "$3.99 or less" videos included numerous 99-cent DVDs. On Friday morning, the $1 movies included "The Derby Stallion" with Zac Efron and "Charlie Wilson's War" with Tom Hanks. By Friday afternoon, the feel-good horse story was "sold out online," while you could still click "add to cart" for "Charlie Wilson's War."

Although industry marketing emphasizes online sales for Cyber Monday after Thanksgiving, the reality is that by Black Friday retailers are off to the races with their cyber discounting.

Actually, an industry survey conducted by BIGresearch found that 8 in 10 online retailers will have special promotions on Monday, but even more (9 in 10) were offering deals at some point during the Thanksgiving weekend.

The retailing industry's CyberMonday.com website shows featured deals now as well as on Monday, and other websites specialize in helping consumers navigate their options.

Some, like ConsumerSearch.com and Decide.com, help people research products and whether new models are on the way. Others, like Dealnews.com and TGIBlackFriday.com offer a window on the deals available on specific products at specific stores.

WFMY, a North Carolina TV station, posted a wealth of links to deals (organized in categories such as kids’ apparel) on its website. A few clicks and you'll be able to see if "Charlie Wilson's War" is still a 99-cent DVD at Best Buy.

The TV station's Black Friday guide notes that for some websites you need to log in or have a discount code before the lowest prices appear.

Heavy D, Smooth-Talking Hip-Hop Star, Dies at 44

Heavy D, the smooth-talking and cheerful rapper who billed himself as “the overweight lover M.C.,” died in Los Angeles on Tuesday. He was 44.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office confirmed the death Tuesday evening, saying that Heavy D had collapsed at his home and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died shortly after noon. The cause of death was not known as of Tuesday night, but the Beverly Hills police said that there was no evidence of foul play and that the death appeared to be “medically related.”

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Heavy D was one of hip-hop’s most popular and charismatic figures, a girthy slickster who was an eager seducer and was unafraid of the dance floor. He was the frontman of Heavy D & the Boyz, which became the first act signed to Uptown Records, the label that was integral in building the bridge between hip-hop and R&B.

Thanks in part to production from the New Jack Swing auteur Teddy Riley that matched hard-snapping drums with sensual melodies, Heavy D & the Boyz became key figures in the softening of hip-hop’s sharp edges. The group released five albums between 1987 and 1994, three of which went platinum: “Big Tyme” (1989) “Peaceful Journey” (1991) and “Nuttin’ but Love” (1994).

At the time, blending hip-hop and R&B was still something of a novelty, but Heavy D’s work felt seamless. He was a nimble and jubilant-sounding rapper who always chose charm over aggression.

Most of the group’s early hits — songs like “Mr. Big Stuff” and “Gyrlz, They Love Me” — were cheeky, as Heavy D, a flamboyant dresser and an outsize personality, set the template for plus-sized hip-hop Lotharios. By 1991 he had moved on to straightforward love songs like “Is It Good to You” and his group’s biggest hit, “Now That We Found Love,” based on a cover version of a classic O’Jays song by the reggae band Third World.

“Peaceful Journey,” the 1991 Heavy D & the Boyz album, was dedicated to the dancer Trouble T-Roy, one of the Boyz, who died from a fall while the group was on tour in 1990. Mr. Dixon’s death also inspired Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.),” one of hip-hop’s essential tribute songs.

Heavy D was born Dwight Errington Myers on May 24, 1967, in Mandeville, Jamaica, and grew up largely in Mount Vernon, N.Y. His mother worked as a nurse and his father as a movie equipment repairman.

In the mid-1990s he became the president of Uptown Records, and in several other ways his influence extended beyond his albums. He recorded the theme song to the popular comedy variety show “In Living Color”; recorded hit songs with both Michael Jackson (“Jam” in 1991) and Janet Jackson (“Alright” in 1990); and had a hilarious cameo in the video for “One More Chance,” an early hit for the Notorious B.I.G., who followed in Heavy D’s big-man footsteps.

Though Heavy D continued to record music — including a reggae-influenced album, “Vibes,” in 2008 — and performed as a rapper as recently as the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards this summer, he was better known in recent years for his acting work. He had recurring roles on TV shows including “Roc,” “The Tracy Morgan Show” and “Boston Public,” and parts in films including “The Cider House Rules” and the current “Tower Heist.”

Survivors include a daughter, Xea.

According to the papers, Brodnicki admitted to a mental health professional that he "entertained thoughts of killing Ms. Gomez."
According to the documents, Brodnicki has a history of mental illness, causing the authorities to take his threats "extremely seriously."

Selena's mother, step-father and assistant are also protected under the order.

Wow, Jacqueline Laurita Disses On Teresa Giudice

Teresa Giudice may be the most recognizable face from The Real Housewives Of New Jersey, but that’s not stopping her costar Jacqueline Laurita from telling people how terrible she really is. When rumors about mutual cast mate Melissa Gorga being a stripper began circulating, Laurita made sure to point out where the false information came from.

“Teresa told me that ‘rumor’ about Melissa when she first started the show. She wanted her out then. She knew. She plotted it. She played dumb on camera and even defended Melissa. Teresa is scum!” Jacqueline Tweeted.

She wasn't done there, though. "I can't be part of the Charade anymore. It's unsettling. It's disturbing & against what I stand for. I'm a REAL housewife," she wrote Wednesday. "There is no real love there. Things aren't always what they seem. SOME people live a different life OFF camera then they do on. (ahem). You'll all see through the bull--– if you look closely enough. I think you all are pretty smart."

People magazine cites an unnamed source who says that Laurita "has definitely quit" and that "she had to walk away for her sanity." Bravo told CNN they're not commenting on Laurita's tweets or the reports.

For her part, it does sound like Laurita is keeping her eyes trained on the future. She wrote Wednesday, "I'd like to only focus on positive things now please. I threw the trash out. I'm cleaning now and reorganizing. Starting fresh and new."

Would you miss Laurita if she left "RHONJ"?

Lachey gets to stiffly and indirectly inspire a cappella hopefuls

As the face of NBC’s the Sing-Off, Lachey gets to stiffly and indirectly inspire a cappella hopefuls, while McGrath flexes his charm muscles in order to coax karaoke studs on the syndicated Don’t Forget the Lyrics! a hosting gig may not be every performer’s ultimate goal, but the similar destinations these two have arrived at beg for a closer look at their journeys, including old music videos, celebrity girlfriends and unfortunate hairstyles.

FROSTED TIPS

The definitive hairstyle for slightly douchey musicians of the late ’90s. McGrath’s strands stand higher and shine brighter, giving him an almost skunk-like appearance (chalk it up to his Southern California roots), while Lachey’s Ohioan blood makes his slightly chestnut locks seem as if he’s simply been out on the farm all day.

CELEBRITY GIRLFRIENDS

after romantic cameos in each other’s videos and a public attempt at domesticity, Lachey moved on to former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo—keep it in the family!—hoping that the second time down the aisle is a charm. McGrath has been on and off with long-time girlfriend Carin Kingsland (the couple welcomed twins in 2009), but there was a time when he was just another notch on the belt of perpetual rock star groupie Carmen Electra. Winner: Lachey

MUSCLE SHIRT VIDEOS

Both Lachey and McGrath have the tattoos necessary to give this look a little edge, but Lachey resembles more of the ex-high school football player reliving his glory days, rather than your local stoner-surfer who post-grads suddenly realize is totally sexy.

Zara Phillips and her fiance Mike Tindall are famously as far from the royal mindset as they come

Although she counts Princess Anne as her mother, Zara Phillips and her fiance Mike Tindall are famously as far from the royal mindset as they come. Owing to Zara's non-royal status (while her mother has a royal title, she and her brother Peter do not), the wedding is beng independently funded, with even the royal reception venue, Holyroodhouse in Scotland, being paid for out of pocket by Zara's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Tindall's guests will include many fellow rugby players, while Phillips has invited members of her equestrian community. "She regards herself as a sportswoman not as a royal. Added royal historian Hugo Vickers, "I wouldn't say he is marrying into the royal family, rather she is marrying out of the royal family."

There is one indisputably royal element of the wedding: Friday night's pre-party on the famous Royal Yacht Britannia. More importantly, the Telegraph noted, four royal couples have bunked in the yacht's honeymoon suite after their weddings...and all have been doomed to failure: Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon sailed in 1960, Zara's mum Princess Anne and father Captain Mark Phillips shared the room in 1973, Charles and Diana honeymooned in 1981, and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson used the boat for their honeymoon in 1986.
Phillips and Tindall will forgo a honeymoon as the groom returns to rugby training camp on Sunday night, writes the Telegraph.

The art of "Planking" - Grilling Plank

There are three different products that can fall into the category of a Plank Cooking or Grilling Planks. These are Roasting planks, Wood Papers and Grilling planks.

Contrary to popular believe, Grilling planks are not a new way of cooking. Plank Cooking and Grilling Planks are seen as a very trendy way to cook now. It is difficult to describe the flavour that is imposed upon food when cooked on a grilling plank. It is not an art really, grilling planks are all about experimentation and fun. The secret of cooking with a grilling plank is the soaking. A wonderful way to cook, to add another dimension to your grilling plank - you can try adding beer, wine or even whisky to the grilling plank when soaking. You can retrain your deep abdominal muscles and increase your core stabilization by using the popular exercise known as the plank. In a study done by physiotherapists in Australia, the researchers concluded that people who suffered from chronic lower back pain had weak and uncoordinated core muscles. To improve core stabilization, the therapists used the plank as well as traditional strengthening exercises for the core and entire body.
In this study, there was an emphasis on the deep abdominal muscles, especially the transverse abdominus. The plank is a great exercise to retrain your ab muscles to work more efficiently. It is an isometric exercise. Simply hold yourself in a straight line forming a human plank.

When you pull your belly button towards your spine, you engage and retrain the deepest abdominal muscle to support your back. If you have difficulty with the full plank, you can do a modified plank and balance from your knees and your forearms. Some people find that the plank may be uncomfortable on the elbows, and if you are uncomfortable on your forearms and elbows, you can balance from your hands and toes.

Once you master the regular plank, you can try the side plank version for the obliques and lower back. If you stack your feet on top of each other, you will have less stability than if you stagger your feet on the floor. The plank and the side plank are truly great exercises for the core, and once you master the regular plank and the side plank you can create endless variations to spice of your core workout.
